Beyond Binaries:
Epistemic Justice in AI Datasets
This is a project that looks at how AI systems used in Indian agriculture often leave out the voices and knowledge of the people most affected by them—especially small-scale farmers and Indigenous communities. We study the datasets behind these technologies to understand whose knowledge counts, what gets left out, and why that matters. Through the comparison between AI-driven approaches with traditional and agroecological ways of knowing, we’re working to imagine more just, grounded, and participatory ways to use data in agriculture.
