Maria Julia Martins

Maria Julia is an interdisciplinary researcher with a background in International Relations and studies of gender and sexuality. She recently completed a Master’s degree in Media and Communications at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). Her research focuses on technology governance and movements of resistance in Brazil.

Alongside her academic work, Maria has experience at the intersection of operations, product, and project management, having worked in fast-paced environments and early-stage startups. A generalist by nature, she enjoys diagnosing complex problems and proposing creative pathways for more sustainable futures. 

At the AIPJ, Maria contributes to research for Rooted Clouds, while also supporting operational and strategic initiatives. She believes that technology and artificial intelligence should be grounded in community needs and is committed to designing systems that reflect principles of justice.

 Outside of work, she enjoys running and writing.
